A group of skiers banded together to save a child who was dangling from a chairlift.

Pedro José Ruiz Tamaral, 47, was skiing at the Valdesquí ski resort in Spain last weekend (March 15) when he heard someone screaming for help.

Turning around, he saw a child clinging to the chairlift barrier, his legs dangling in the air.

Pedro immediately began shouting to alert the staff, who quickly stopped the ski lift.

A video shows a group of 10 skiers gathering beneath the child, holding a makeshift cushion to catch him.

Pedro, from Spain, said: "After about 20 meters, they eventually stopped the ski lift.

"One man removed the protective padding from the poles that support the chairlift—normally there to prevent people from hitting them—and they used it as a makeshift cushion.

"At the same time, they were giving instructions to the child to remove his skis and let himself fall safely.

"I don’t know the exact age of the child but he seemed to be around 11 years old."
