There were out-of-this-world cute scenes as formally stranded astronaut Sunita Williams met her dogs during a touching homecoming.

The NASA astronaut and International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 72 flight engineer declared the moment to be the "Best homecoming ever!" as her two pets bounded around with excitement upon seeing her.

In scenes shared on April 1, the emotional spacewoman is heard asking the dogs "Do you know who I am?" and is seen hugging them as they wag their tails and lick her face.

After a minute of high-energy bonding, a weary Sunita can be heard saying "Alright, I got to sit down".

Sunita and fellow ISS crewmate Butch Wilmore were on the orbital facility for an unexpectedly long duration of 286 days due to technical issues with their original spacecraft, the Boeing Starliner.

They safely landed back on Earth in waters near Tallahassee, Florida on March 18.
