A family has welcomed a new baby - born in a supermarket car park.

Michael Bremner was at work when his wife Dinara called and urged him to rush home as her water had broken.

The couple arranged for Michael's mom to look after their daughter and began to rush to the maternity hospital in Aberdeen.

As Dinara's contractions intensified, Michael phoned 999 for help and was told to pull over somewhere safe.

After pulling into an ASDA car park call handlers gave Michael instructions on how to help deliver the baby safely.

Before long baby William was born in the passenger seat of their car.

Michael of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, said: ''I saw the bright lights of the Asda car park and thought it would be a perfect spot as the ambulance would find its way to it quite easily.

"It was a wee bit scary, but it was okay. The guy on the phone told us what to do; he was great."

The couple wrapped William in a jumper, and kept the car's engine running to keep him warm.

Within five minutes, an ambulance arrived, taking Dinara and 9lb 2oz William to the hospital, with Michael following close behind.

He said: "William went three days in hospital without a name.

"We did consider George because of the Asda connection but we went with William in the end!"

When the manager of ASDA Huntly, Linda Morrison, found out about the birth, she delivered a bouquet of flowers to their home - before inviting the couple to the store to be gifted a hamper of baby supplies and treats.

She said: "We just wanted to do something a bit special.

"It's not every day that a baby's born in your car park!

"William was just beautiful, and he was giving me smiles. I was delighted to meet them."
