This amazing photo shows a lamb being born on a farm, with the Northern Lights as a backdrop.

Katie McMillan took the image of her dad Euan at work shortly before midnight on April 15 on the family croft at Slumbay, Lochcarron in Wester Ross, Scotland.

His white torchlight shows a ewe that has just had a lamb - as the Northern Lights appears in the sky.

Katie explained: “He was just getting to his feet and looking for his first drink in this picture.

''The torchlight is from dad's head torch as he gives them a look over to make sure all is well and the lamb and mom are healthy.

“The other picture is of dad leaning on his crook observing the new lamb and his mother from a distance.

“The sheepdog, Gem, is lying beside him. She is wearing a red light-up collar which is where the red light is coming from.”

Mother and son “are both doing grand.”

And while there’s no tradition for naming the lambs, he is now referred to as Northern Lights, said Katie.
