Ed Sheeran's childhood drum kit is going under the hammer, giving fans the rare chance to own a piece of music history.

The kit, which was a gift from the singer's mom, was painted bright orange and green by Ed himself - who also scribbled some personal messages on it.

Handwritten notes include the inscription: "This was my old drum kit, love Ed xxxx."

It's estimated it will fetch around $6,830.

The set includes a bass drum, toms, a floor tom, a snare, cymbals and stool. It was used by the singer in his teenage years in Suffolk, before he became famous.

Mikey Higginson is a music specialist at Bishop & Miller which is auctioning the kit.

He said: "This drum kit is more than just an instrument - it's part of Ed's childhood, the very tool through which he developed his passion.

"To see it in the flesh and signed by the man himself is fabulous, it is a piece of music history and now it is being offered for collectors, which is not something to be missed.

"I am looking forward to watching the auction run online and see what we can get for it."

The lot also comes with postcards of Ed performing at charity events and photos of him signing the kit during its first sale in 2016.

The auction runs online this week, with the kit on display in Stowmarket, Suffolk, until Friday, before bidding closes at 3 p.m.
