Legendary director David Lynch’s Hollywood home on sale for $15M

The sprawling Hollywood estate of the late, legendary director David Lynch has gone on sale for $15 million.

The 2.3-acre compound - designed by the son of famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright - includes a brutalist studio where Lynch produced his 2001 masterpiece Mulholland Drive.

The hillside enclave boasts ten bedrooms and 11 bathrooms across seven separate structures, a unique swimming pool and a studio that starred in Lynch's 1997 film Lost Highway.

The dreamy, modestly furnished home epitomizes the Twin Peaks director, who died in January aged 78, and feels part of the surrealist world of his screenplays.

Anchoring the estate is the Beverly Johnson House, designed in 1963 by Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright.

The three-bedroom home is recognized by Historic Places LA as an "excellent example of Mid-Century Modern/Organic residential architecture."

The house embodies the drama of hillside modernism with bold geometry, walls of glass, and a seamless flow between indoors and out.

Over the years, award-winning director Lynch expanded the property into a compound by acquiring the two neighboring residences on Senalda Drive in the Hollywood Hills.

At 7029 Senalda, he established the address for his production company, Asymmetrical Productions, whilst at 7035, he found cinematic inspiration and later immortalized the property as the Madison residence in Lost Highway.

It also includes Lynch's private editing suite and screening room.

In 1991, Lynch commissioned Eric Lloyd Wright - grandson of Frank - to design a pool and a pool house, extending the property's lineage to encompass two generations.

The director also collaborated on the creation of additional structures on the property, including a two-story guest house and another unique, one-bedroom living space finished in his favored smooth gray plaster.

Father-of-four Lynch's outdoor workshop and art studio also serve to remind visitors of the artistic presence of its former tenant.

"For more than 35 years, this compound wasn’t just David Lynch’s home, it was the incubator for his creative mythology," Marc Silver, the listing agent for The Agency, who are selling the property, explained.

"Few properties in Los Angeles offer this level of privacy, scale, and creative infrastructure while remaining so close to the city’s cultural core."

Lynch's daughter, Jennifer Lynch, has taken to social media recently to say that, although the family would love to keep the property, her father's will was 'clear' in his wish to split the money equally between his children from the sale of the complex.

"My siblings and I would keep it, but Dad's Will was clear," she wrote in a post on Reddit.

"Immediately sell the compound as a single property and after taxes split proceeds evenly between the four children'.

"Dad didn’t want any of the four of us to feel more or less loved than the others.

"The compound was his most valuable and prized possession. An artist or artists should be there.

"It’s set up to support and inspire creativity. It’s also a beautiful place to spend Christmas and Thanksgiving."

Many fans have taken to the internet to express their wish to see the property bought and turned into a David Lynch museum.

The property is for sale with The Agency for $15m.
