‘Retail expert’ reveals hack to find Black Friday deals

A retail expert has shared the one thing you should do NOW to prepare for Black Friday in order to get best deals.

Emma Collins, 49, said it's easy to get side-tracked or panic buy on the day - but instead you should make a list of what you need ahead of time.

She recommended you don't overlook in-person stores - as often there are deals there which aren't shown online.

But her top tip is to subscribe now to the loyalty programs and mailing lists of any stores you might want to visit - as they often give additional Black Friday discounts that way.

Emma, from Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, head of marketing and digital at The Original Factory Shop, said: "When there are pressures on the wallet, Black Friday shouldn't be about panic buying.

"Combined efforts of loyalty programs, mailing lists and planning ahead of time will get you a good deal.

"Research your essentials ahead of time for things that might be coming to the end of their lifespan - like washing machines and tumble dryers.

"Look at reviews and decide what you want beforehand, and then be ready to pounce when the price drops.

"Sometimes in-store, staff can give you insider knowledge of the deals too."

Emma said preparing is essential to make the most of the sales - so you know what you want when the time comes.

You should decide what your budget is ahead of time to make sure you don't lose track and overspend.

On top of making your shopping list you should sign up for rewards clubs and mailing lists as soon as possible.

She advised people to check the websites early as sometimes they launch their sales ahead of Black Friday itself.

She said: "With lots of retailers there's only a certain volume of stock available, so look earlier in the week."

Emma added that Black Friday is best for things like electrical, beauty and fragrance over food and laundry-related items, which you might typically buy weekly.

She recommended visiting smaller outlets and independents - to ensure you support your local businesses as well as the major stores.

She said: "The smaller shops have deals as well - the big retailers always go big, but they're not the only ones."
