HUSBAND OR HOOK-UP? NEW RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT THE AVERAGE GAY OR QUEER MAN CAN TELL A POTENTIAL PARTNER’S INTENTIONS WITHIN JUST 43 MINUTES OF MEETING.

THAT’S ACCORDING TO A SURVEY FROM ARCHER OF 1,000 GAY OR QUEER MEN WHO ARE SINGLE, CASUALLY DATING OR WITH THEIR PARTNER FOR LESS THAN THREE YEARS.

RESULTS FOUND THAT 28 PERCENT NEED LESS TIME – JUST UNDER 20 MINUTES, IN SOME CASES – TO TELL WHETHER SOMEONE ELSE IS LOOKING FOR A HOOK-UP OR LONG-TERM PARTNER.

AND NEARLY FOUR IN FIVE (79%) BELIEVE IT’S TIME TO REDEFINE THE NORM WHEN IT COMES TO DATING AS A GAY OR QUEER MAN, LOOKING TO BREAK TRADITIONAL STEREOTYPES.

CONDUCTED BY TALKER RESEARCH, THE SURVEY ALSO FOUND THAT ABOUT HALF (48%) HAVE SHIFTED THEIR DATING GOALS IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS, NOW SEEKING SOMEONE WHO ALIGNS WITH THEIR LONG-TERM FUTURE (48%) OR AIMING TO BE MORE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT FROM A PARTNER (43%).

Research methodology:

Talker Research surveyed 1,000 gay and queer men who are single, casually dating or in a relationship less than 3 years who have access to the internet; the survey was commissioned by ARCHER and administered and conducted online by Talker Research between Nov. 14 and Nov. 24, 2025. A link to the questionnaire can be found here.
