Stunning images show an iconic British cathedral being transformed by a UK first immersive light and sound display.

The inside of Manchester Cathedral has been fitted with a battalion of high-power projectors which turned its ancient architecture into a vast living canvas sharing tales of the city.

Pictures captured the walls glowing whilst a live orchestra and choir were performing Northern soul anthems from bands such as The Verve, Joy Division, and Oasis.

Manchester legend Christopher Eccleston - best known for his roles in Doctor Who - could also be heard narrating stories about Manchester's rich cultural heritage.

The experience was run by LUMINISCENCE, who put on similar 360° projection-mapped concerts inside cathedrals across the world including France, Spain, Brazil, and USA.

Performances run from Wednesday, Jan. 14 to March 26, 2026.
