The CIA has released a glossy video designed to attract Chinese spies.

Unveiled on Thursday, Jan. 15, the two-minute clip is narrated in Mandarin and details how would-be agents can securely contact the US intelligence service.

Lifestyle-type scenes show men and women of different ages in a city, many interacting with digital devices, including laptops and phones.

In one scene, a person accesses a presumably secure messaging site with the word CIA on it.

The CIA said: "The CIA wants to know the truth about China, and we are looking for trustworthy people who know and can tell the truth. The information you possess may be more valuable than you realize.

"This video demonstrates each step of securely contacting the CIA. We understand that many people from diverse backgrounds wish to contact us."

The video details specific points to consider before and during secure contact.

They range from assessing risk to yourself and family, to secure methods for contact, including using a VPN or an encrypted messaging service such as Signal or Telegram.

"The CIA's global mission is dedicated to enabling individuals to securely contact us from anywhere," the CIA added.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe has previously said: "One of the primary roles of the CIA is to collect intelligence…by recruiting assets that can help us steal secrets."

The video transcript:
