‘Loneliest sheep’ gives birth to twins

Britain's "loneliest sheep" has given birth to twins.

Fiona the ewe became famous when she was rescued after two years alone at the base of a 200m cliff.

But she has now given birth to two lambs - one male and one female.

Her 2023 rescue sparked headlines, as a team of farmers used heavy-duty winches and specialized climbing gear to scale the cliff face and bring her to safety.

Staff at Dalscone Farm in Dumfries, where she has lived since her rescue, say the decision to breed Fiona was made "with deep care and consideration."

They decided to put her in lamb to give her the opportunity to have a family of her own after years of isolation.

Ben Best, Manager of Dalscone Farm, said: "We are absolutely over the moon.

"To see Fiona go from the base of a lonely cliff to being such a protective, attentive mother is just incredible.

"She took to them immediately, and watching her look after these lambs has been a really emotional moment for everyone here.

"She’s traded the title of 'Loneliest Sheep' for 'World’s Best Mom,' and we couldn't be prouder of her."

The lambs have not yet been named, but farm staff hope to receive suggestions on their social media, where they will share regular updates.
