Photos show the UK bridge where couples have attached 'love lock' padlocks for over a decade.

The first padlock appeared on the Forth Road Bridge in South Queensferry, Scotland, in 2015.

It started as part of a project aiming to raise money for the RNLI Lifeboat Station.

The padlock, etched with a couple's name, sparked an idea and, inspired by similar bridges across the world, staff began allowing other couples to engrave their own lock and attach it to the famous bridge.

Throughout the year, over 5,000 locks were clipped on, costing £15 each and raising over £10,000 for the cause.

The Mark Your Spot project also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the bridge, which opened in 1890.

Today, stunning pictures show an array of colourful, heart-shaped padlocks, etched with couple's names, anniversaries, declarations of love, and even marriage proposals.

While the locks are no longer able to buy as part of the campaign, many have been added in the years since.
