Police have ruled out 'fowl play' after discovering a chicken coop abandoned - in the middle of a road.

Traffic officer made the bizarre find on the A414 near St Albans, Herts., in the early hours of Thursday (February 19).

Photos show the wooden stucture - which police believe fell from the back of a vehicle - sat in the outside lane.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertforshire Road Policing Unit posted on X: "Why did the chicken cross the road?

"To get to his home, which appeared to have fallen off the back of a vehicle on the dual carriageway. Thankfully no one collided with it."
