Terrifying footage shows a have-a-go hero armed with nothing more than a broom take on robbers wielding huge machetes.

CCTV footage from Bilezzik, a business selling gold-plated jewelry in Green Lanes, North London, shows one of the armed gang driving a moped into the shop.

Another person wearing a bike helmet follows them in with a hammer, smashing the display cases.

Meanwhile, as onlookers begin approaching the storefront and someone can be heard screaming, another person wearing a bike helmet is seen pacing outside the jewelry store, slashing the air with a huge machete.

Footage shows him running after and slashing at an onlooker, before another man arms himself with a broom and approaches the man wielding the blade.

The machete-wielder slashes at a stack of water bottles and shouts at the man armed with the broom, who is seen retreating in the opposite direction.

But the man with the broom doesn't give up and again approaches the knifeman in the road.

A woman who works at the shop is seen from interior CCTV taking a customer to a safe place.

The employee said she doubted the robbers knew that the jewelry was mainly made of silver, with gold-plating on top.

"I think soon they will be caught," the woman said.

"Our jewellery is gold-plated, but I guess [the robbers] didn't realize that."

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 10:04 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, following reports of an armed robbery at a shop on Green Lanes, Islington.
