AMERICANS ARE GETTING MORE STRATEGIC AT THE GROCERY STORE.

A NEW SURVEY OF 2,000 ADULTS FROM THE IDAHO POTATO COMMISSION FOUND ABOUT A THIRD ARE COOKING AT HOME MORE THAN THEY WERE A YEAR AGO AS THEY LOOK FOR WAYS TO STRETCH THEIR FOOD BUDGET.

THE STUDY, CONDUCTED BY TALKER RESEARCH, FOUND MOST SHOPPERS ARE NOW LOOKING FOR INGREDIENTS THEY CAN USE IN MULTIPLE MEALS TO HELP REDUCE WASTE AND GET MORE FOR THEIR MONEY.

POTATOES TOPPED THE LIST OF THE MOST VERSATILE STAPLES, FOLLOWED BY EGGS, RICE, PASTA AND BEANS.

SO WHAT'S THE ONE INGREDIENT YOU ALWAYS KEEP IN YOUR KITCHEN BECAUSE IT CAN GO WITH JUST ABOUT ANY MEAL?

Research methodology:

Talker Research surveyed 2,000 general population Americans who have access to the internet; the survey was commissioned by Idaho Potato Commission and administered and conducted online by Talker Research between June 12, 2026 - June 17, 2026. A link to the questionnaire can be found here.
