Mosquito in amber from ‘Jurassic Park’ sells for over $400,000

The mosquito fossil prop featured in the opening scene of "Jurassic Park" has sold for more than $400,000.

The screen-matched item is the catalyst for the creation of the modern world dinosaurs in Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster.

Other highlights of Propstore's Los Angeles Hollywood memorabilia auction included John Travolta's iconic white suit from "Saturday Night Fever" selling for £213,444 ($277,200), a "Star Trek" Starfleet phaser reaching £242,550 ($315,000) and Christopher Reeve's Superman costume bringing in £179,487 ($233,100).

Other standout sales in Thursday's (27/9) event included Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man armor (£106,722 ($138,600)), Keanu Reeves' "Matrix Reloaded" costume (£106,722 ($138,600)), Johnny Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean" hat (£77,616 ($100,800)), Val Kilmer's "Tombstone" whiskey cup (£92,169 ($119,700)) and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" prosthetic teeth (£36,382 ($47,250)).
