A former observatory has sold for a whopping £82K ($90,881) above its asking price after a flurry of bids at auction.

The property, which is now a huge luxury bungalow, sold for £667,000, ($739,239) despite its initial guide price being £585,000 ($648,358).

It's set in three acres of gardens and woodlands, in it's own grounds in Trellech, a village near Monmouth, Wales.

Gemma Vaughan, of Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions, said: "It's a truly fabulous property located amid a serene and contemplative setting in historic Trellech.

"There was a great deal of interest in the former observatory ahead of the auction which was reflected over the period of the online sale.

"There were 31 people watching the property, with four bidders and 28 bids made before the property sold for an impressive £82,000 more than the guide of £585,000."

The old observatory has now been converted into a lounge with an impressive domed and vaulted ceiling.

The property can be used as two separate dwellings, and boasts four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two en-suites, two kitchens and a central courtyard.
