The Apple Computer Company had barely been running for three months when the tech visionary added his signature to the bill.

Dated July 8, 1976, the check is made out for $175 (£140) to Crampton, Remke & Miller, Inc., a Palo Alto management consulting firm.

They provided services to a wide range of high tech companies in Northern California, including Atari, Memorex, National Semiconductor, and Xerox.

Boston-based RR Auction says the pristine check came in the year of the company's founding, a moment that marked a turning point in the history of modern technology.

The auction house explains: "This check is significant not only for its association with the co-founder of Apple, but also for the fact that it uses the company's first official address at "770 Welch Rd., Ste. 154, Palo Alto."

"This address was that of an answering service and mail drop that they used while still operating out of the Jobs family garage.

"Jobs's hiring of such a firm (Crampton…) during Apple's earliest stages demonstrates his eye toward long-term growth.

"At that time, Apple had recently developed the Apple-1, secured its first big order, and set about trying to fulfill it.

"Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had to secure parts and components on credit, build the computers, and deliver them to retailers and individuals.

"The auction of this piece of history is a rare opportunity for collectors and technology enthusiasts alike to own a piece of Apple's founding story."

RR Auction's Executive Vice President, Bobby Livingston, adds: "It’s a highly desirable, essentially flawless check from a central moment in the history of modern tech." The auction will conclude on May 10, 2023.
