A selection of retro horror film posters are expected to reach thousands of pounds at auction.

The range of posters, which are from the 1960s, includes one that was advertising the movie Dr. Who and the Daleks, which starred Peter Cushing.

The 30-inch x 40-inch poster is expected to reach £2,000 ($2,436) to £4,000 ($4,873) when it goes under the hammer.

Hammer Horror released a film called Nightmare in 1964 and a poster for that movie is expected to fetch around £700 ($852) to £1,000 ($1,218) when it goes to auction.

A poster advertising two films from 1967 - Frankenstein Created Woman and The Mummy’s Shroud - is also set to reach £700 - £1,000 ($852 to $1,218) at auction.

Alastair McCrea, the head of department at Ewbank’s Auctioneers, described the posters as "retro chic" and said they make "great artwork."

He said: "The great thing about film posters – and especially horror film posters – is that they almost always have very striking designs.

"Remember, in many cases the first time the public heard about the movies was when they saw the posters pasted up outside cinemas or on advertising hoardings.

"So to pull the punters in, they had to be extremely enticing indeed.

"Now, as artworks, they provide retro chic and a lot of great artwork for your wall for the price paid."

Posters about films such as "Zombie Flesh Eaters," "I was a Teenage Frankenstein," "House of Wax" and "The Shining" will also be going to auction.

Live bidding is available on the posters now at www.ewbankauctions.co.uk.
