Unlucky man has been on more than 50 game shows and has never won

Britain's unluckiest game show contestant has appeared on TV more than 50 times - but has never won a penny.

Edward Oldfield, 45, has been featured on shows like Come Dine With Me, The 1% Club, Dickinson's’ Real Deal, Britain's Got Talent and Tipping Point.

But he's never won any money and has only ever come home with a prescription of fake pills, a Steph’s Packed Lunch mug and an Elephant costume.

The cafe worker said: "I don't know why I've never won - I think it's just bad luck.

"There's been times where I've been so close and I've been able to smell the money, but never won it.

"I've been doing this for ten years, sometimes I wonder if I give up but then I think it might be just around the corner."

Edward's TV career started in 2001 when he went on The Weakest Link and then he later appeared on Come Dine with Me.

That episode was voted the funniest one in the history of the show and it's the only one where presenter Dave Lamb swore.

He then got asked to go on Tipping Point and since then, he's been on over 50 shows which have been broadcast to over three million viewers in over 150 countries.

Edward said: "I got an email asking if I was interested in going on Tipping Point and I thought why not because you can win money on it and meet a few new people.

"I don't know what happened next, every time the phone rang it was another program or I was getting an email from people.

"I've done 50 television shows, which is just incredible.

"Where in the world could you go and get paid to be as silly and funny as you want to be?

"The only place is TV - you can speak to your mind and act like a child again."

Edward, who has been married to wife Emma for 14 years, even performed as a stand-up comedian on Britain's Got Talent in 2016 and 2017.

Even though he didn't get through the first round both times, he said Stephen Mulhern was 'wonderful' and 'gave him a pep talk' off camera.

Edward, of Blackpool, Lancs,. said: "Stephen Mulhern followed me out into the corridor after we did a shoot for Britain's Got More Talent.

"I asked him if I should take a hint because this was the second time round but he told me I was funny and that the judges don't always get it right.

"He told me to not give up and I thought he was a wonderful guy.

"He didn't need to follow me into the corridor and give me a pep talk as it was all off camera."

Edward also appeared on Channel 4 show 'The Surjury' - where he starred as the front man of a jury who decided if people should have plastic surgery.

The late Caroline Flack presented the show and Edward described her as someone who was "always very nice" and who would often text him.

He said: "She was always very nice and would text me and ask about my children.

"Some of these people are so famous but so lovely.

"I find that the more famous someone is, the more lovely they are.

"She asked me if I watched Love Island, I told her it wasn't really my thing and she told me to watch the next series.

"She asked me again if I did had watched that series and I remember joking with her about it."

Even though Edward, who is dad to Jack, 13, and Charles, 11, has been on the majority of British TV shows - he has never been on BBC's Bargain Hunt.

But he hopes to go on the show one day, as he thinks it would be "such a laugh" and the "sort of show he should be going on".

Edward said: "I think Bargain Hunt would be great fun - it would be such a laugh.

"I'm not really good at winning money but Bargain Hunt is all about losing money.

"I don't think anyone ever makes any money on there, it's about who has lost the least money.

"I think this is the sort of show that I should be going on.

"I also think Gogglebox would be a good one, I have that much experience in television I could add a different dimension.

"I think I would never say never to a show, as I always get talked into stuff.

"They are quite good at talking stuff up - I wouldn't do anything that involves dating but I don't think there's anything else I wouldn't do."

Edward's advice for anyone wanting to go on TV is to "not take themselves too seriously".

He said: "If you are going to go into this, then you have to do it for a bit of fun and think 'one day I will win.'

"I always tell people to not do it if they take themselves too seriously or don't want to make a fool out of themselves.

"If you really are desperate for the money, then play for the lottery."
