"Saturday Night Live" alum Dean Edwards joined comedian Bret Raybould in “Race: The Movie: The Play,” a slapstick social satire exploring racism, white supremacy and cancel culture.

Edwards stars as Gene Yus, a distinguished Black musician who sets out on a concert tour through the 1860s Deep South with his white stagecoach driver Wyatt Saveyer (Raybould).

Joined by their trusted steeds, white horse Meta and black horse Phor, the pair encounter the Ku Klux Klan, slavery, telegraphing while driving and even have arguments over who can say the N-word.

Meanwhile, people were being sentenced to the "Can Cell" – a literal cell made from soda cans.

Throughout the play, Gene and Wyatt explore the issues at hand by poking fun at themselves, breaking the fourth wall and through their interactions with aptly named characters such as Ray Cist, Jen Trifier, Max Hayte, Tuwoke, King of Kawanda T’Challa-Latte and Judge Hughbythecolorofyourskin.

Written by Cristian Duran and Raybould, the play spoofs Oscar-winning, Black-themed films such as “Green Book,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Get Out,” The Help,” “Black Panther,” “Django Unchained.”

The play, which won best actor and best script at last year's New York Theater Festival,
will continue running from May 24 to 27 at the Soho Playhouse.

In a Q&A after their performance Friday, Raybould and Duran said they hope to bring the play to the big screen – and it would most likely be called: “Race: The Movie: The Play: The Movie,” they joked.
