Police have reported a real-life Christmas miracle after a Baby Jesus stolen from a nativity scene outside a church was returned.

Officers were tasked with finding the model of young Christ after it was snatched from its crib at St Mary's Church in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Church Reverend Toby Wright said it was "yanked" from its display, detaching it from electrical wiring.

Thames Valley Police asked local residents to "keep your eyes peeled" as they investigated the holy theft between December 19 and 20.

But now the Baby Jesus was back where he belonged - in his basket in the manger.

Rev Wright said: "It was wired in but they had yanked it out."

Confirming Christ is home, he commented: "All is well in the manger again."

Earlier this week, police tweeted: "The Baby Jesus's has been taken from the crib outside of St Mary's Church Witney. This has happened overnight".

Dave Mitchell said: "Maybe he got the dates mixed up and has risen instead?"

Whilst another local wrote: "Talk about bad karma but we didn't put Baby Jesus in the manger till midnight mass Christmas Eve."

"What was he doing in the manager before Christmas?", Terresa Macfarlane pondered.

In jest, another suggested he "went on a pub crawl then crawled back to bed".
