A hapless horse was rescued after falling into a swimming pool by firefighters who built a staircase made out of wooden pallets and straw.

Fire crews were called after the animal found itself stuck in the drained pool in Grendon, England, on Thursday, February 3.

They managed to bring the horse to safety with the help of its owner and a vet by cleverly making a makeshift set of stairs.

They wrote: "Today our crews successfully rescued a horse who had found itself stuck in a drained swimming pool in Grendon.

"The owner and a vet was also in attendance during this operation to ensure the wellbeing of the horse. #NotJustFires"
