Watch as a spectacular pod of dolphins swam alongside a woman's jet ski and leapt out of the water as if performing a water ballet.

Zoe Teikamata, 20, was out on her jet ski around Rangitoto Island, New Zealand, when she captured the surreal moment.

The playful mammals stayed with Zoe for nearly four hours before she had to leave the inquisitive creatures.

Zoe, who is a marine biology student at the Auckland University of Technology, said that this was her first-ever encounter with dolphins.

“I’d never seen one this close before. I didn’t expect them to be so big. They were longer than the length of my Jetski!," she said.

“It was amazing seeing how friendly they were. These dolphins are local to the Gulf Harbor and Waiheke Island area of Auckland. But I was lucky enough to have them jumping and racing around me.

“I could see how much they were enjoying the vibrations of my jet ski and surfing the wake. It was incredible.”

This video was filmed on August 28.
